Positive developments, particularly in the field of research combine with high-tech laboratory facilities that are available in Universiti Malaysia Pahang indirectly attract Ministry of Transport together with Kuantan Port Authority to convene a session of an official visit here. The delegation led by Dato' Asmawi Nordin, Senior Manager Operations & Regulatory, Kuantan Port Authority and Dr. Kanagalingam, Maritime Atase II, were welcomed by Director, Centre for Earth Resources Research & Management (CERRM), Dr. Muzamir Hasan.
Besides sharing expertise mainly in the issue of bauxite mining in Pahang, the delegation has also visited Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory in Faculty of Civil Engineering & Earth Resources (FKASA) and Central Laboratory UMP. This special visit has been made prior to "National Awareness Workshop On the Implementation of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code, with Special Focus On Cargoes that May liquefy (Bauxite)" which will be organized by International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Marine Department of Malaysia and Kuantan Port Authority which scheduled to begin from 25 April to 28 April 2016 in Zenith Hotel, Kuantan. During this workshop, UMP will receive an official visit from delegation within and outside the country on 27 April. In fact, Dr. Muzamir Hasan has also been appointed as one of the invited speakers for in this workshop and it indirectly recognizes the credibility, expertise and involvement of UMP in the issues of bauxite which previously plagued the residents of Kuantan.
